Benedictine’s University’s School of Health Services provides instruction to nurses who wish to advance to positions as administrators, leaders, or health educators and establish themselves as professionals within the rapidly changing, quickly expanding health care industry. The online Masters In Nursing (MSN) program available at Benedictine is accredited and features a versatile education, a flexible, self paced learning environment, and a unique, highly personalized academic experience. Candidates may specialize studies within six concentrations by customizing their “area of focus” in: public health, health education, administration, disaster management, health policy, and leadership, management, and finance. Courses offer students the combination of flexible coursework and hands on experiences necessary to augment critical thinking skills and apply knowledge in clinical settings. The University’s accreditated MSN degree provides students with integrated instruction based in leadership, administration, education, and global health care. Benedictine has offered over 25 years of innovative, affordable, and convenient educational programs to working professionals in the field of nursing. Students are required to complete their degree within 24 months or may select an accelerated 16 month program.
Benedictine University’s MSN program includes core courses like: transforming nursing roles: the educator, administrator, and the socially sculptured professional nurse; global leadership: foundations of nursing and health care; ethical and culturally competent health care professional; health care information systems and technology; the teacher scholar, administrator, visionary leader; measuring quality in health and education systems; management, human resources, and financial planning in health and education systems.
Students may specialize training by completing area of focus courses. Courses within the public health area of focus include: health systems, epidemiology, environmental health, and ethical and political issues in public health. Courses within a health education area of focus include: behavioral and social aspects of public health, public health education methods, community health and risk education, and cultural context of health care in the U.S. Courses within an administration area of focus include: marketing of health care services, health policy, management of health services organizations, financial planning in health care organizations, and legal aspects in health care administration. Courses within a leadership, management, and finance area of focus include: leadership and ethics in a global environment, organizational behavior, financial accounting, economics, and multicultural management. Courses within a disaster management area of focus include: principles of emergency and disaster management, psychology and sociology of disasters, disaster assessment and mitigation, disaster management in public health. Courses within a health policy area of focus include: cultural context of health care in the U.S., legal aspects in health care administration, health policy, health systems, and conflict management. All MSN candidates also must complete a capstone project in synthesis and transformation of knowledge.
